Safreena Banu of class three of Government Primary School, Innoli, a village under Pavoor Gram Panchayat jurisdiction was ecstatic. She was looking forward for the Independence celebration not because she would be served with laddu, but, she was told she would get new bag and a pair of sandal to wear.
The 66th Independence Day Celebration at Bearys Institute Technology [BIT], Mangalore, was not limited with hoisting of the National flag, in fact BIT went a step ahead to be of service to the community. Members of PRAY [Pain Relief And You] Club of BIT, thought to celebrate the Independence Day in its real sense. It was Prof. Shahina D.M, staff coordinator, PRAY, who initiated this cause. She happen to witness kids walking bare foot to the school, also visited the school in person only to find lack of amenities.
The members of PRAY club headed by Prof Nurul Hassan, started seeking donations from every staff and students of BIT. Management was generous enough to double the amount collected. Result, each and every student of the Govt Primary School was gifted with school bag, pouch containing pencils and pens and a pair of sandal to wear.
“We are blessed to have one such college in our vicinity” said, Mrs. Vathsala Jogi, Headmistress, Govt Primary School, Innoli.
Honorable Chairman, Syed Mohammed Beary, would always quote, ‘Anything that reliefs the pain of the other is PRAY’, remembered Dr.S.K.Raikar, Principal BIT while addressing the gathering. He also said, “I am glad BIT is of some help the community which we are a part off.”
Mrs.Shoba, a teacher of the school was overjoyed and expressed, “I am really delighted. I am sure the strength of our school will increase, people will get to know that facilities will be rendered to the school thereby helps the school to grow. Facilities like this will be a platform for the students to perform.”
Mr.Siddiq, a student of Electronics and Communications of 7th Semester, BIT, and also alumni of the Govt School, was joyous, he sought an opportunity to be on stage and said, “90% of the students who study in this school are economically weakened, I am overwhelmed that BITians are of help to the poor. I would be glad if more students of this school get enrolled into our college for higher education.”
Mr.Mohan, Physical education director of the Govt School was the Master of the Ceremony. Mr.Lakshman, Science Teacher of the Govt School, rendered the vote of thanks.
